Insurance & Out-of-Network Benefits
My practice is primarily private pay. I am currently accepting a limited number of in-network clients with Aetna and TRICARE West.
For most other insurance plans, I can work with clients as an out-of-network provider. If your PPO plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for a portion of your therapy costs.
I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. You pay the session fee directly to the practice, and your insurance company determines whether reimbursement is available and how much it will pay.
Because every insurance plan is different, I recommend contacting your insurer before beginning therapy and asking:
Does my plan include out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health treatment?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much remains?
What percentage is reimbursed after the deductible is met?
What is the allowed amount for CPT code 90837 (60-minute individual session)?
What is the allowed amount for CPT code 90791 (intake session)?
Are telehealth sessions covered out-of-network?
Are there limits on the number of psychotherapy sessions covered each year?
How do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?
Out-of-network reimbursement is determined entirely by your insurance plan and cannot be guaranteed.
Private Pay
Some clients choose not to use insurance at all. Private pay allows greater flexibility in treatment planning because treatment is not submitted to an insurance company for authorization, utilization review, or reimbursement.
When insurance is not used and no superbill is submitted, a diagnosis and other clinical information do not need to be provided to an insurance carrier for reimbursement.
Clinical records are maintained in accordance with applicable California law, HIPAA requirements where applicable, and professional ethical standards.
Payments & Cancellation Policy
Payment is due in full at the time of service and is processed securely through the client portal. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, along with all major payment cards.
Appointments may be rescheduled at no charge with at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment time and missed appointments are charged the full session fee.
Out-of-network PPO superbills are available upon request. Clients are encouraged to verify out-of-network reimbursement eligibility directly with their insurance provider.

Availability varies as these spaces are part of a limited portion of my caseload. If a reduced-fee opening is not currently available, you may join the waitlist or request referrals to other therapists who may better fit your budget.
Please contact the practice to ask about current availability.
Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers must provide uninsured clients or those not using insurance with a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges for medical and mental health services, including psychotherapy. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the anticipated cost of services before scheduling or beginning treatment. If you receive a bill that is substantially higher than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the charges.
